Make a difference in your community
If you have an interest in local issues and
believe you have you got the skills and commitment to make
change and champion issues in your area, do consider becoming a
local councillor.
Local councillors play a vital role in their
communities and we want to continue to encourage more women,
especially those from ethnic minority backgrounds to get
involved.
We have completed the series of 16 free
events that took place around Britain between July 2008 and
July 2009. These events provided further information and
advivce on how to get involved. Close to 1000 women
around the country attended the events. 70% of those who completed
the event questionnaire stated that they would be more likely
to put themselves forward as a local councillor . The vast majority
of respondents also said that the events succeeded in improving
awareness for the role of a local councillor.
