Government action
This section sets out the actions we are taking
across Government to support people to stay in and get back into
work, and to build employment and growth for the future.
In
Working towards Equality- Achieving equality for women and men at
work (2009), we set out the huge progress made since 1997 in
improving the position of women in the labour market.
Working Towards Equality: A Framework for
Action sets out how we will build on this progress and
identifies three key objectives, which directly flow from our
vision for the labour market and have been informed by research
into people’s perceptions of fairness. These objectives are to
ensure our labour market is one:
- Where being a parent or carer is not a barrier to opportunity
or success;
- Where a person’s aspirations and opportunities are not
constrained by their gender; and
- That is transparent and free from gender discrimination.
