The Ministers for
Women, Ruth Kelly and Meg Munn met with some 200 ethnic minority women
from across the UK at the Black History Month Reception they hosted at
the House of Commons on 30 October 2006.
The reception,
one of the largest annual gatherings of
ethnic minority women organised by Government,
was opened by Baroness Amos, Leader of
the House of Lords.
The theme of the
event, Social Enterprise, highlighted the
role of ethnic minority women in
championing social enterprise, and the Ministers urged more to
consider setting up a social enterprise.
Also speaking at
the event, were two successful social entrepreneurs, Parvin Ali,
Founder Director of FATIMA Women’s Network and Claire Dove MBE, Chief
Executive of Blackburne House, who spoke about their personal
experiences of setting up a social enterprise and how it had benefited
their communities.
