Domestic Violence: Key Facts

• Domestic violence account for 15 per cent of all violent crimes

• Around 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men have been a victim of domestic violence

• 89 per cent of those victims suffering 4 or more attacks are women

• Almost a third of domestic violence starts during pregnancy, and existing violence often escalates during it

• One incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute

• On average six women per month are killed by a male partner or former partner
